Drishyam 2
Director- Abhishek Pathak
Rating -3.5/5
Drishyam is one of the finest Bollywood remakes of South films in recent times. Many of us were introduced to the Salgaocar family in Drishyam 1 through the remake version. This crime thriller film Creates an interesting plot and storyline.
In Drishyam 1 we saw Vijay Sangaonkar, a fourth-grade school dropout who runs a local cable operating business. He lives happily with his wife Nandini and daughters Anu and Anju in a small town in Goa. His life turned upside down when his daughter Anu and wife Nandini murdered the luscious son of IG Meera Deshmukh. At the end of Drshyam 1 we saw how a school dropout cable operator intelligently protected his family from the harassment of the system and the law.
Now, in Drishyam 2 the story revolves around the same Salgaoncar family. The movie starts with a flashback story of the 3rd of October 2014 night showing a man named David Braganza trying to escape from the police for murder. Braganza sees Vijay appearing from a police station that is under construction, while he is hiding behind it. Cut to 7 years later, Vijay is now a well-of businessman. He owns a movie theatre along with his cable operator business but on the other hand, his daughter Anju is a PSTD patient. Vijay also aspires to make a film of his own so he is in contact with screenwriter Murad Ali. Neighbours are jealous of the Salgaoncar family's growth. The only well-wishers are Jenny and her alcoholic husband Shiv.On Sam's death anniversary, Sam's father Mahesh comes to Vijay to ask about the location of Sam's remains. Vijay disagrees with telling that. One day by mistake Nandini tells Jenny that Anju murdered Sam. Jenny and Shiv are undercover cops appointed by Inspector-general Tarun Ahlawat, a close friend of Meera Deshmukh but Nandini was unaware of it. Meanwhile, Braganza is released from jail and searching for a job to stabilize his life and then he learns that Vijay's case is being reopened. After remembering what he saw on 3rd October 2014, he runs to the police and tells them everything he saw for the money. Vijay is in a difficult position this time to prove himself innocent.
Like Drishyam 1 this movie also creates suspense until the end. Akshay Khanna as IG Tarun Ahlawat added extra value to Dirshyam 2. The competition between Vijay (Ajay Devgan) and Tarun Ahlawat (Akshay Khanna) is enjoyable. But Akshay Khanna's character could have gotten more screen time. Tabu's character seems like a cameo, it is too short in Drishyam 2. Nothing changes in Shriya Saran's character. In spite of her best efforts, her portrayal of a sacred, loyal housewife does not come across as realistic. Ajay Devgan's less expressive nature worked well here. It is quite unrealistic that there are four CCTV cameras in Vijay's office but no CCTV in the Forensic lab. While the story has moved forward seven years, some changes, such as the aging of the characters, changes in the locality, etc., should have been shown. Sourav Shukla as Murad Ali is an important part of this story. In spite of all these facts, the unexpected twists at the end really surprised us. Overall this is an entertaining crime thriller.
